Chapter Fourteen

Once again please remember that the chapters and verses contained in our Bibles were added later to assist in referencing the texts and so on. They are not intended to direct the flow of the texts.

Chapter thirteen ended with the introduction of the False Prophet and the issuance of the Mark of the Beast.

Thus far (as of 10.15.09 CE) the Mark of the Beast has not yet been introduced. However its shadow has been drawing closer for a great many years. On November 16, 1936 the first Social Security (SS) Numbers (SSN) were issued in the United States. There was concern at the time that the SS System might one day be used as a national ID but the government put all such concerns to rest. They promised the American people that would never happen. The government lied... as usual.

Today the SSN serves as the touchstone of all other forms of identification. U.S. Driver licenses (first issued in July 1913 by the state of New Jersey) were gradually linked with SSN numbers as were all medical records etc. Today Real ID is uniting all other systems into a national ID card. What's worse, according to many in-the-know people like Vice Dictator Joe Biden, Real ID will soon form the basis of mandatory computer implants.

So its not if but when...

It is likely that the Mark will continue to be rolled out gradually until the "Middle of the Week" when failure to accept it will mean the death penalty. This is not science fiction, it is science fact. The technology already exists and the issuance of Social Security Numbers was a major step in acculturating the nation and the world to the Mark.

The Mark of the Beast will be gradually released to the public. At first the more zealous supporters of Rex Mundi will hurry to receive theirs as a social statement. Next presumably would be the military, the police, health care workers and those on government programs such as Social Security, unemployment insurance etc. Gradually the noose will be tightened. At this point in the Revelation (14:1) we parenthetically return for a moment to Revelation 7:4:

Revelation 14:1 I saw, and behold, the Lamb standing on Mount Zion, and with him a number, one hundred forty-four thousand, having his name, and the name of his Father, written on their foreheads.

The Lamb is Moshiach of course. Zion is the Holy Mount in Jerusalem, the City of HaShem and future world capital under Moshiach. Of the 144,000 we read previously:

Revelation 7:4 I heard the number of those who were sealed, one hundred forty-four thousand, sealed out of every tribe of the children of Israel:

John is reminding us that we have viewed this scene before: these will be twelve thousand literal, religious Jews sealed for special service by HaShem from each of the twelve houses of Israel. The Great Multitude of Gentiles will be assisting them directly and indirectly in their work. We discussed this in some detail chapter seven.

Now John sees these same Jewish emissaries standing with Moshiach on Holy Zion ready for action. In this case Zion appears to be used as representative of the future messianic government rather than their literal presence there at this time. Once the Abomination of Desolation is committed the Jews will flee the City. We can understand therefore that this verse is showing Moshiach as King directing his troops for the upcoming battle.

In this chapter John is setting the stage for his upcoming description of Babylon the Great. He will have much more to say on this subject in chapters seventeen and eighteen. Our time line therefore is somewhat fluid in this chapter.

We continue reading:

14:2 I heard a sound from heaven, like the sound of many waters, and like the sound of a great thunder. The sound which I heard was like that of harpists playing on their harps. 14:3 They sing a new song before the throne, and before the four living creatures and the elders. No one could learn the song except the one hundred forty-four thousand, those who had been redeemed out of the earth. 14:4 These are those who were not defiled with women, for they are virgins. These are those who follow the Lamb wherever he goes. These were redeemed from among men, the first fruits to God and to the Lamb. 14:5 In their mouth was found no lie, for they are blameless.

Again the Jewish identity of the 144,000 is stated. They are of the "first fruit" and they have received a new song, the Song of the Kingdom. It is most likely that the reference to their being virgins refers to their purity of service to HaShem rather than their physical state. These 144,000 Jews will serve as Moshiach's "Special Forces" and their loyalty is beyond question.

14:6 I saw an angel flying in mid heaven, having the eternal Gospel to proclaim to those who dwell on the earth, and to every nation, tribe, language, and people.
14:7 He said with a loud voice, "Fear the Lord, and give him glory; for the hour of his judgment has come. Worship him who made the heaven, the earth, the sea, and the springs of waters!"

There is no reason to take this in any way other than literal. As humanity advances through the Seven Years HaShem's existence and Will for humankind will be made abundantly clear to all. This may be the same angel who rises from the East at Revelation 7:2 but this is not certain. This angel however will shout for all to hear this warning and admonition. It appears that everyone on Earth will hear this angel's words audibly.

14:8 Another, a second angel, followed, saying, "Babylon the Great has fallen, which has made all the nations to drink of the wine of the wrath of her fornication."

Here for the first time Babylon the Great is mentioned by name. Note that the angel announces that Babylon has fallen! We will discuss this in lots of detail in chapters seventeen and eighteen. For now notice that Babylon the Great has made the nations (the people of the Earth) drunk with her fornication. In the Bible spiritual treason against HaShem is often described as fornication. Again, there will be a lot more about Babylon in chapters seventeen and eighteen. John is only giving us an overview here.

I noted in my commentaries on chapter thirteen that Babylon the Great will oversee the Idol and Mark of the Beast. Particularly note the next verse in this regard:

14:9 Another angel, a third, followed them, saying with a great voice, "If anyone worships the beast and his image, and receives his mark on his forehead, or on his hand, 14:10 he also will drink of the wine of the wrath of God, which is prepared unmixed in the cup of his anger. He will be tormented with fire and sulfur in the presence of the holy angels, and in the presence of the Lamb.

The proximity of these two verses is not a coincidence.

14:11 The smoke of their torment goes up forever and ever. They have no rest day and night, those who worship the beast and his image, and whoever receives the mark of his name. 14:12 Here is the patience of the holy ones, those who keep the commandments of God, and the faith of Y'shua."

I discuss the symbolism of Gehenna elsewhere however the state of all who accept the Mark of the Beast is clear. ALL who accept the Mark will be doomed. There will be no exceptions.

14:12 Here is the patience of the holy ones, those who keep the commandments of God, and the faith of Y'shua."

The meaning here is that as we face the various coming persecutions, as we witness the death of loved ones and the overspreading of evil, we can rest secure in our faith that HaShem and His Moshiach will be victorious in the end and that there will be a time of reckoning (Rev 6:11). We can be certain that the Kingdom will be established and that the New World Order is going down! So having done all you can to stand... Stand!

14:13 I heard the voice from heaven saying, "Write, 'Blessed are the dead who die in the Lord from now on.'"

"Yes," says the Spirit, "that they may rest from their labors; for their works follow with them."

The idea of being killed or of sacrificing ones life is not pleasant for anyone, however it will be in part the testimony of the martyrs that will seal Rex Mundi's fate. Blessed are all who are privileged to take part in this coming sacrifice!

14:14 I looked, and behold, a white cloud; and on the cloud one like a son of man sat, having on his head a golden crown, and in his hand a sharp sickle.

Now John sees Moshiach, a human, a son of man, crowned as King of Israel. This white cloud represents the great cloud of martyrs who have washed their robes white (pure) in the blood of the lamb (Rev. 7:14):

Of this Cloud of Witnesses we read:

Hebrews 12:1 Therefore let us also, seeing we are surrounded by so great a cloud of witnesses, lay aside every weight and the sin which so easily entangles us, and let us run with patience the race that is set before us, 12:2 looking to Y'shua, the author and perfecter of faith, who for the joy that was set before him endured the cross, despising its shame, and has sat down at the right hand of the throne of God. 12:3 For consider him who has endured such contradiction of sinners against himself, that you don't grow weary, fainting in your souls. 12:4 You have not yet resisted to blood, striving against sin;

Now they have "resisted to blood," which is to say, to the death. These are they who were told to rest for yet a little while until their peers were martyred (Rev. 6:11). That this is the meaning of the cloud here is admittedly interpretation on my part, but given the preceding verse I feel it is an accurate one. The holy blood of the martyrs is a powerful thing!

14:15 Another angel came out from the temple, crying with a loud voice to him who sat on the cloud, "Send forth your sickle, and reap; for the hour to reap has come; for the harvest of the earth is ripe!"

Previously when John beheld Moshiach enthroned he spoke of his grandeur as sovereign of Israel and overlord of the nations (11:15), now he witnesses HaShem's order for him to end the Great Tribulation. The warriors assembled on the plains of Megiddo, those in Jerusalem and throughout the area are here likened to ripe grapes! These people dare resist Moshiach but HaShem will crush them into pulp and their blood will flow as red wine!

John continues:

14:16 He who sat on the cloud thrust his sickle on the earth, and the earth was reaped.

14:17 Another angel came out from the temple which is in heaven. He also had a sharp sickle. 14:18 Another angel came out from the altar, he who has power over fire, and he called with a great voice to him who had the sharp sickle, saying, "Send forth your sharp sickle, and gather the clusters of the vine of the earth, for the earth's grapes are fully ripe!"
14:19 The angel thrust his sickle into the earth, and gathered the vintage of the earth, and threw it into the great winepress of the wrath of God. 14:20 The winepress was trodden outside of the city, and blood came out from the winepress, even to the bridles of the horses, as far as one thousand six hundred stadia [or 182.8 miles, 292.6 Kilometers].

A stadion is a space or distance of about 600 feet (185 m). Therefore this measurement tells us that at ground zero of the battle of Har Megiddo (Armageddon) an area of approximately 960,000 feet or 181.8 miles (292.6 Kilometers) will be literally flowing with blood from this battle! The statement that blood will flow " even to the bridles of the horses" is almost unimaginable, but literal or not, the scene will be absolutely gruesome!

It is important to note that there are two critical wars discussed in the Book of Revelation: the Battle of Har Megiddo (or Armageddon) and the War of Gog and Magog. People often confuse these. We'll discuss the War of Gog and Magog later in this study. This text is referencing the Battle of Har Megiddo (Armageddon), the battle that will witness the destruction of Rex Mundi and the New World Order and the dawn of the Millennial Kingdom.
