    The Seven Seals

At the beginning of the previous chapter we saw John enter into the Spirit and ascend to the Throne Room of HaShem.

Here in chapter five John is standing in this Throne Room beholding the royal preparations for the End of the Age (Matt 24:3).

Revelation 5:1 I saw, in the right hand of him who sat on the throne, a book written inside and outside, sealed shut with seven seals.

As I explained at the beginning of this study:

We further note that this book -- i.e. the Revelation of Y'shua -- while given to us by Y'shua was received by him from HaShem, the God of Israel. This places the stature of this work among the other prophetic books such as Daniel. Indeed the Book of Daniel ends with this promise of further prophetic revelation:

Daniel 12:8 I heard, but I didn't understand; then I said, "My lord, what shall be the result of these things?" 12:9 He said, "Go your way, Daniel; for the words are shut up and sealed until the time of the end.

This is the same sealed book now held in the hands of HaShem. The time has come for these prophecies to be "opened." We should not assume this means the literal scroll of the Book of Revelation and/or Daniel, but rather that these words reflect HaShem's intention to reveal the knowledge withheld from Daniel to John. Still however John clearly does not understand everything he has been shown and much would not be understood completely until the End of the Age: "for the words are closed up and sealed till the time of the end...." Therefore in some cases the prophecies revealed from this point on will not always be understood completely, however as we are now approaching the End of the Age much is being revealed!

5:2 I saw a mighty angel proclaiming with a loud voice, "Who is worthy to open the book, and to break its seals?"
5:3 No one in heaven above, or on the earth, or under the earth, was able to open the book, or to look in it. 5:4 And I wept much, because no one was found worthy to open the book, or to look in it.
5:5 One of the elders said to me, "Don't weep. Behold, the Lion who is of the tribe of Judah, the Root of David, has overcome; he will open the book and its seven seals."

The Lion of the Tribe of Judah

We can assume the Elder who spoke these words was Judah although he is not identified here. Here is the reference:

Genesis49:8 "Judah, your brothers will praise you.
Your hand will be on the neck of your enemies.
Your father's sons will bow down before you.
    49:9 Judah is a lion's cub.
From the prey, my son, you have gone up.
He stooped down, he crouched as a lion,
    as a lioness.
    Who will rouse him up?

49:10 The scepter will not depart from Judah,
nor the ruler's staff from between his feet,
until Shiloh comes, to whom it belongs.
To him will the obedience of the peoples be.

Who is worthy to remove the seals? Who is worthy to bring in the promised Kingdom of HaShem revealed by the holy prophets? Only Moshiach (Messiah)! Only Shiloh! Only the Lion of the Tribe of Judah, who is the Root of David and our coming King!

The timing of this verse is very significant! John is narrating the preparations underway in HaShem's Throne Room for what lies ahead.

Here we see Moshiach, Shiloh, anointed and accepting his assignment. In the next chapter his opponent, Rex Mundi will make his appearance! Never doubt that God is prepared!

5:6 I saw in the midst of the throne and of the four living creatures, and in the midst of the elders, a Lamb standing, as though it had been slain, having seven horns, and seven eyes, which are the seven Spirits of God, sent out into all the earth.

When discussing the Seven Lamps I said the reference is that HaShem is all knowing and that by His Glory and Omniscience nothing escapes His awareness. I also said much more could be said. Here's a bit more.

Shiloh, the Moshiach, is now standing in the Throne Room before the King of all existence in complete submission. HaShem has selected him to Champion the cause of the Earth in the upcoming struggle and he has accepted. Whereas the Twenty Four Elders (representing Judaism and the Way/Christianity) failed, Moshiach will succeed! Moshiach is described as a man fully empowered by HaShem. Even as the Seven Lamps reflect God's Glory and Power and Knowledge, so too that absolute authority is now bequeathed to Shiloh for the upcoming struggle with Rex Mundi!

5:7 Then he came, and he took it out of the right hand of him who sat on the throne.
5:8 Now when he had taken the book, the four living creatures and the twenty-four elders fell down before the Lamb, each one having a harp, and golden bowls full of incense, which are the prayers of the holy ones.

As Moshiach steps forward and accepts his destiny as God's Standard Bearer the Four Beasts (signifying all life on earth: Rev. 4:6) and the Twenty Four Elders (signifying the Jews and Noahide Nazarenes: Rev 4:4) bow low and place their full faith in him.

Moshiach is the world's last best hope.

9 They sang a new song, saying,

"You are worthy to take the book,
      and to open its seals:
      for you were killed,
and bought us for God with your blood,
out of every tribe, language, people, and nation,
5:10 and made us kings and priests to our God,
and we will reign on earth."

5:11 I saw, and I heard something like a voice of many angels around the throne, the living creatures, and the elders; and the number of them was ten thousands of ten thousands, and thousands of thousands; 5:12 saying with a loud voice, "Worthy is the Lamb who has been killed to receive the power, wealth, wisdom, strength, honor, glory, and blessing!"

5:13 I heard every created thing which is in heaven, on the earth, under the earth, on the sea, and everything in them, saying, "To him who sits on the throne, and to the Lamb be the blessing, the honor, the glory, and the dominion, forever and ever! Amen!"

Note that ALL the glory and worship goes to HaShem alone even as His Champion the Moshiach is praised!

    As noted previously:

Romans 8:19 For the creation waits with eager expectation for the sons of God to be revealed.

Its not just we humans but all of creation that yearns for liberation (Psalm 82:6). As we reach this point in our study we begin to see that liberation is finally at hand!

But there remains difficult days ahead!
