Audio Version:

We pray to HaShem, the Holy One of Israel, to fill our hearts with wisdom and understanding as we continue this study into the Revelation of our chief rabbi, Navi Y'shua.

We aren't going to offer an exhaustive look at the Beit HaMikdash here. We plan to do that in a future series. For our present purposes we are looking at the courtyard of the Beit HaMikdash and the statement that it will remain unmeassured and "trodden under the feet of the Gentiles."

Revelation 11:1 A reed like a rod was given to me. Someone said, "Rise, and measure God's temple, and the altar, and those who worship in it.
11:2 Leave out the court which is outside of the temple, and don't measure it, for it has been given to the nations. They will tread the holy city under foot for forty-two months.
This is a direct reference to a prophetic teaching of our Rebbe:
Luke 21:24 And they [i.e. the Jews] shall fall by the edge of the sword, and shall be led away captive into all nations: and Jerusalem shall be trodden down of the Gentiles, until the times of the Gentiles be fulfilled.
Remember that Navi Yochanan is in the celestial (or heavenly) Temple (in the spirit) during these experiences. He is contrasting events there with those taking place in the earthly Temple. There is an eternal connection and reciprocity between the celestial and terrestrial Temples. This is why Rebbe Y'shua taught us to pray that HaShem's Will be done on earth as it is in the heavenlies. When one enters the earthly Temple one is, in a very real way, entering the celestial one and "for those with eyes to see" they are one. The earthly Beit HaMikdash can be thought of as a "reflection" of the celestial House of the Holy but in reality it is more than that. Even as we leave the Olam Hazeh (the world as it is) and enter the Olam Haba (the world as it will be) on Shabbat, so too those who enter the holy Beit HaMikdash in Jerusalem are in a very real sense entering the celestial House of the Holy.

Centuries earlier Navi Ezekiel (or Yechezk'el son of Buzi) had a similar experience. For a better understanding of what Navi Yochanan is experiencing please read Ezekiel chapters 40-47.

The Courtyard of the Temple

The main courtyard had thirteen gates. Different people entered in through these gates as follows:

On the south side, beginning with the southwest corner, there were four gates:

  • Shaar Ha'Elyon (the Upper Gate)
  • Shaar HaDelek (the Kindling Gate), where wood was brought in
  • Shaar HaBechorot (the Gate of Firstborns), where people with first-born animal offerings entered.
  • Shaar HaMayim (the Water Gate), where the Water Libation entered on Sukkot.
On the north side, beginning with the northwest corner, there were four gates:
  • Shaar Yechonyah (The Gate of Jeconiah), where kings of the Davidic line enter and Jeconiah left for the last time to captivity
  • Shaar HaKorban (The gate of the Offering), where priests entered with kodshei kodashim offerings
  • Shaar HaNashim (The Women's Gate), where women entered into the Azara or main courtyard to perform offerings
  • Shaar Hashir (The Gate of Song), where the Levites entered with their musical instruments

On the east side of the complex, between the Women's Courtyard and the main Courtyard was

  • Shaar Nikanor, which had two minor doorways (one on its right and the other on its left)

And on the western wall were two gates that were not named as far we know.

Gentiles (people of the "nations") were allowed to visit the outer courtyard but were barred from the inner courts. This is because the One God is God over all the earth and so everyone is allowed to approach His House but not everyone is declared holy enough to fully enter. As the Covenant people and collective "Suffering Servant," the Israelites/Jews are "a kingdom of priests" to the nations (Exodus 19:6) and are therefore allowed deeper into the Temple than the Gentiles. The Cohenim and Levites are 'the preists of the preists' and hence are allowed to go deeper in than their fellow Jews. Likewise the cohen gadol (or high priest) is allowed to enter into the most hallowed place in obediance to strict regulations. In the structure of these allowences we see the hierarchy through which HaShem governs as God, King and Lord of all existence.

When the Roman Pagans destroyed the Second Temple in 70 CE it was as though they had stormed the very holy of holies, desecrating Sacred Zion. The Presence (Ruach and Shekhinah) of HaShem left the holy mount and entered into the Diaspora with the Jewish people. With the destruction of Temple Jerusalem was "trodden under the feet" of the Goyim as Rebbe Y'shua foretold at Luke 21:24, Matthew 23 and 24 and elsewhere.

Rebbe Y'shua plainly said that he did not know how long this period of Diaspora would continue:

Mark 13:32 But of that day and that hour knoweth no man, no, not the angels which are in heaven, neither the Son, but the Father.
Only God knew how long the diaspora would last because the timing was in the hands of human free will. Throughout history humanity had the option of turning to HaShem or moving further away from Him. The years of the Diapora [i.e. of Jewish exile] will continue until certain conditions are met by human volition. The Rambam lists these conditions as follows. He taught that haMoshiach will be sent to establish the earthly theocracy:
  • If Israel repented a single day;
  • If Israel observed a single Shabbat properly;
  • If Israel observed two Shabbats in a row properly;
  • If a generation of Jews were totally innocent or totally guilty;
  • If a generation of Jews lost all hope;
  • If a generation of Jews where totally disrespectful towards their parents and elders;
To date such a generation has not arisen. Rebbe Y'shua was more concise than the Rambam on this point:
Matthew 24:15 When you therefore shall see the abomination of desolation, spoken of by Daniel the prophet, stand in the holy place, (whoso readeth, let him understand:)...
24:21 ... then shall be great tribulation, such as was not since the beginning of the world to this time, no, nor ever shall be.
24:22 And except those days should be shortened, there should no flesh be saved: but for the elect's sake [i.e. to rescue the Jewish people from anihilation] those days shall be shortened.

By the decree of HaShm humanity would be free to rule itself as it chose, for the most part, as long that free will did not overly threaten the continuing service of People Israel. To save Israel HaShem will intervene.

The Merovingian Elite that rules the earth has always wanted to "solve the Jewish question" through genocide. Under the administration of Rex Mundi that dark dream would finally be realized if human free will were allowed to run its course. Once the abomination of desolation spoken of by Daniel the prophet is commited therefore the "Times of the Gentiles" will be cut short in order to rescue the Jewish people from anihilation.

Rav Paul speaks of this time when he says:

I Thessalonians 5:3 For when they shall say, Peace and safety; then sudden destruction cometh upon them, as travail upon a woman with child; and they shall not escape.

At some point in the future the Rex Mundi is going ride onto the world stage as the first of the Four Horsemen of the Apocolypse (as we discussed when looking at chapter six). This man will seem to be the bringer of global peace and security and most of the world will accept him as such. Approximately 3 1/2 years after he signs a certain peace treaty with Israel however his true nature will become obvious and he will use all his power to genocide the Jews, first those in Eretz Israel and then those scattered around the globe. As we will discuss in more detail in the next chapter, the global leader will turn against Israel and seek to utterly destroy the Jews and all who stand with them. Navi John now tells us how long this darkest period in human history will last.

The Forty-Two Months

Revelation 11:2 Leave out the court which is outside of the temple, and don't measure it, for it has been given to the nations. They will tread the holy city under foot for forty-two months.

This period is described in various ways to emphasize that it is to be taken literally:

  • 42 months: Revelation 11:2, 13:5
  • Half of a prophetic "week" (3 1/2 "days"): Daniel 9:27
  • Three and half times: Revelation 12:14
  • A time and times and a half a time (3/12 times): Daniel 7:25
  • A thousand two hundred and threescore days (1260 days).
  • So, 7 x 360 days = 2520 days; 3.5 x 360 = 1260 days (Daniel 12:11). 3 1/2 times = 1260 of these days = 3 1/2 years for each half of the seven years. However the second half will be somewhat shortened (Matthew 24:22). How muchit will be shortened we are not told but the full seven years will not take place before the Kingdom is established.
Rex Mundi will rule for seven times or years (Daniel 4:16). Half way through his administration he will commit the abomination (Daniel 9:27) and rule for just under another 3 1/2 years or 1260 days (Revelation 11:3; 12:6) before being dethroned by Melekh Y'shua.

We know from Daniel and other sources that the present age will end with seven years of tribulation:

Daniel 9:27 And he [i.e. Rex Mundi] shall confirm the covenant with many for one week [i.e. seven years: Numbers 14:34, Ezekiel 4:6 etc]: and in the midst of the week he shall cause the sacrifice and the oblation to cease, and for the overspreading of abominations he shall make it desolate, even until the consummation, and that determined shall be poured upon the desolate.
At Matthew 24:15-20 Rebbe Y'shua references this prophecy and describes how the coming global potentate will cause the sacrifices and the oblations in the new Temple to cease.

The coming Novus Ordo Seclorum despot will rule as seeming savior for three and half years or relative peace: which is to say for the first half of Daniel's prophetic "week" of years. Then the Antichrist will commit this abomination of desolation in the Holy Place of the Third Temple (where such a thing should not be: Mark 13:14). With this heinous act, the leader will declare himself to be God incarnate, as Rav Paul explains:

II Thessalonians 2:1 Now we beseech you, brethren, by the coming of our master Y'shua the Anointed, and by our gathering together unto him, [i.e. in restored Israel: Isaiah 43:5]
2:2 That ye be not soon shaken in mind, or be troubled, neither by spirit, nor by word, nor by letter as from us, as that the Day of Moshiach is at hand.
2:3 Let no man deceive you by any means: for that day shall not come, except there come a falling away first [see: Revelation 3:14-19], and that man of sin [i.e. Rex Mundi] be revealed, the son of perdition;
2:4 Who opposeth and exalteth himself above all that is called God, or that is worshipped; so that he as God sitteth in the temple of God, shewing himself that he is God....

Once "the Great Leader" arises the elders of Israel, both political and religious, will believe the lie (II Thessalonians 2:11) and embrace him as haMoshiach. When that happens, according to the prophecies, the elders of Israel will build the Third Jerusalem Temple (Ezekiel 37:26-28) under his authority and that of the global religion and its False Prophet.

Identifying the Man of Sin

This gives us some critical information on identifying Rex Mundi as he arises. It also protects us from jumping to conclusions and baseless finger pointing at politicians we may not like. As Rex Mundi arises he will:
  • Establish global peace. This will include the signing of a significant peace treaty with Israel
  • He will be accepted as haMoshiach by Jewish orthodoxy and the state of Israel
  • Based on this acceptence the Temple Institute will begin construction of the Third Jerusalem Temple.
Until these three things happen we can not identify the coming leader with certainty. He must acomplish these three tasks at a minimum. Throughout history there have been many "antichrists" even as there have been many "messiahs" however only one of these is the Moshiach and only one will be Rex Mundi (I Corinthians 8:5).
