We pray to HaShem, the Holy One of Israel, to fill our hearts with wisdom and understanding as we continue this study into the Revelation of our chief rabbi, Navi Y'shua
The Seventh Shofar/Trumpet: The Third Woe
As you will doubtless recall, the Seventh Shofar/Trumpet is "contained" within the Seventh Sealed Scroll as a document is contained within a file (as are the Seven Bowls or Saucers we will read about in chapter sixteen). In chapter eight Navi Yochanan looked forward to this sounding. He does so again here because when the Two Witnesses conclude their ministry the Seventh and Last Shofar will sound (I Corinthians 15:52 ). We read about this event in following verses:Revelation 8:2 I saw the seven angels who stand before God, and seven shofars [trumpets] were given to them. Now in Navi John's prophetic time line the Seventh Shofar is sounding. To avoid confusion here remember that John uses these events to chart the events on his time line. While we can expect literal soundings of theses shofars to echo out from eastern skies (Revelation 7:2), their purpose in the text is to divide the prophecy into recognizable portions to help us understand the order of these events. This final shofar covers a longer period of time than its actual sounding would suggest.
8:3 Another angel came and stood over the altar, having a golden censer. Much incense was given to him, that he should add it to the prayers of all the holy ones on the golden altar which was before the throne.
8:4 The smoke of the incense, with the prayers of the holy ones, went up before God out of the angel's hand.
Navi Paul shares what will take place when this shofar is sounded:I Corinthians 15:50 Let me say this, brothers: flesh and blood cannot share in the Kingdom of God, nor can something that decays share in what does not decay.
51 Look, I will tell you a secret - not all of us will die! But we will all be changed!
52 It will take but a moment, the blink of an eye, at the final shofar. For the shofar will sound, and the dead will be raised to live forever, and we too will be changed.
53 For this material which can decay must be clothed with imperishability, this which is mortal must be clothed with immortality.
54 When what decays puts on imperishability and what is mortal puts on immortality, then this passage in the Tanakh will be fulfilled: "Death is swallowed up in victory.
55 "Death, where is your victory? Death, where is your sting?"
We will discuss life in the Kingdom Age later. For now we note that when this seventh and final sofar sounds the resurrections will begin and natural death will end. This sounding will take place as Y'shua ben David haMelekh takes his throne in Jerusalem and dons the mantle of haMoshiach (Messiah) fully.
We have previously discussed the fallacy of the Rapture dogma believed by many Anglican, Protestant and heterodox Christians. This quote by Rav Paul rejects that theory. Whatever Navi Paul is discussing when he says we will be "changed," in a moment, the blink of an eye will take place when the final shofar is sounded. According to Navi Yochanan in the next verses this blast will occur after Armageddon, as Melekh Y'shua takes his throne and inaugurates the Thousand Year Theocratic Kingdom. Being "raptured" at that point would be a curse!
Navi Yochanan continues:Revelation 11:15 The seventh angel sounded, and great voices in heaven followed, saying, "The kingdom of the world has become the Kingdom of our Lord, and of his Anointed. He will reign forever and ever!"
As we continue we note that the exact timing of the ascension of the Two Witnesses, the beginning and conclusion of the Battle of Armageddon and the enthronement of haMoshiach in Jerusalem as King of Israel and overlord of the Noahide Nations is not precisely given. There are still many things to be discussed! It is clear however that these events will unfold in fairly rapid succession and in this order. We'll have more to say on this as we discuss the coming destruction of the City of Rome.
As the Seventh Shofar sounds:Revelation 11:16 The twenty-four elders, who sit on their thrones before God's throne, fell on their faces and worshiped God,
11:17 saying: "We give you thanks, Lord God, the Almighty, the one who is and who was; because you have taken your great power, and reigned.
11:18 The nations were angry, and your wrath came, as did the time for the dead to be judged, and to give your bondservants the prophets, their reward, as well as to the holy ones, and those who fear your name, to the small and the great; and to destroy those who destroy the earth."
11:19 God's temple that is in heaven was opened, and the ark of the Lord's covenant was seen in his temple. Lightnings, sounds, thunders, an earthquake, and great hail followed.
We will discuss the events that happen at the establishment of the Kingdom later when Navy Yochanan discusses them, but these are the events Rav John is now previewing.
