The Moon and the Star
By: Rabbi Aryel Nachman ben Chaim – 3 Kislev 5771 (and six days of Creation)
There is, today, a great deal of discussion and fear about muslims, islamic conquest and “creeping sharia”. Many people have asked me if this concerns me. While I despise what islam stands for, and I abhor its violence, in the long term, they do not concern me that much.
I hear you out there saying: “WHAT!” or “He’s a Rabbi, what else would he say?” but, that is not why I say this with such great confidence.
When I think of islam’s conquest of the world, I can do nothing but laugh at the sheer foolishness of their assertions. I see them in the aspect of “A brutish man knoweth not, neither doth a fool understand this. When the wicked spring up as the grass, and when all the workers of iniquity do flourish; it is that they may be destroyed for ever. (Tehilim 92)
So, let me tell you the secret of islam and why I do not fear them.
The future demise of islam, and the rise of Israel, are foretold within the symbols of islam itself! Look at the symbol of islam. The symbol that adorns every mosque and is on every flag of every islamic country; the moon and the star.
Look at the moon. What do you notice? This is a question that has been asked of every Talmudic student of the great schools of old. Prior to admission, the Rosh Yeshiva would take him to a chart of the phases of the moon and ask “When is Rosh Chodesh?” if they did not choose the right phase, they were turned away to study more.
So too, I ask a similar question “What phase is the islamic moon?” Is it not a waning moon? A moon whose light is being diminished and whose light will be removed and be seen no more. And when the moon’s light is removed, do you not notice the stars even more so? Do they not seem to shine all the brighter?
This is the reason for the star next to the moon.
And, who has been described as the stars of the sky? Israel; only Israel is referred to as stars.
Let us look further into the mysteries of the symbols.
Balaam gives us the answer to the mystery of the star: “The saying of him who heareth the words of G-d, and knoweth the knowledge of the Most High, who seeth the vision of the Almighty, fallen down, yet with opened eyes: I see him, but not now; I behold him, but not nigh; there shall step forth a star out of Jacob, and a scepter shall rise out of Israel, and shall smite through the corners of Moab, and break down all the sons of Seth.” (Bamidbar 24).
Fearing islam is like giving credibility to idol worshipers in the aspect of: “… lest thou lift up thine eyes unto heaven, and when thou seest the sun and the moon and the stars, even all the host of heaven, thou be drawn away and worship them, and serve them,…” (Devarim 4).
Those misled children of the Jewish people; those who stand with the world and the muslim against Israel; who claim islam to be peaceful and not a threat to Jews or Israel, look to the words of HaShem Himself: “Your eyes have seen what the L-RD did in Baal-peor; for all the men that followed the Baal of Peor, the L-RD thy G-d hath destroyed them from the midst of thee.” Therefore, you have been warned of the folly of your words and acts.
Therefore, I say to you children of HaShem, circumcise fear from your hearts: Out of my straits I called upon the L-RD; He answered me with great enlargement. The L-RD is for me; I will not fear; what can man do unto me? The L-RD is for me as my helper; and I shall gaze upon them that hate me. It is better to take refuge in the L-RD than to trust in man. It is better to take refuge in the L-RD than to trust in princes. (Tehilim 118).
