Since the question continues to come up, I am going to post this here in the "Files" so everyone has access to it.
I am Rabbi Aryel Nachman ben Chaim:
I am a follower of the Baal Shem Tov (zt’l), my Rebbe is Rebbe Nachman of Breslov (zt’l) and I derive great inspiration, strength and comfort from the Grand Rebbe of Kaliv, Menachem Mendel Taub (shlit’a).
My secular name is Mark A. Messler (yes, the comic strip artist, author and two-time Pulitzer Prize nominee), anyone who has seen the pictures of my comic strips in my Albums would know this already. Just as many in the west have a secular name and a Hebrew name, so do I; my Hebrew name is Aryel Nachman ben Chaim.
I studied for the rabbinate for 9 years, starting at Hebrew Union College in Cincinnati, OH to become certified as a Para-Rabbinic Fellow. I studied with numerous rabbonim over that period, and was finally ordained through the Rabbinical Seminary International in New York at Congregation Ezrath Israel; and NO, it is not a diploma mill! Anyone who wants to read the 600 plus pages of written materials I submitted over the years is welcome to read it.
On my father’s side, we descend from the Messer-Leon rabbonim of Europe through Rashi’s daughter, Miriam, and were among the first Tosafists. The Messer-Leon rabbonim are recorded in the Encyclopedia Judaica. (see: http://www.jewishencyclopedia.com/search?utf8=%E2%9C%93&keywords=messer&commit=search)
Due to a family dispute, my Grandfather put an “L” in the name to separate himself from the rest of the family (have no idea why).
I am NOT in any way related to the fraude Ralph Messer (who calls himself a messianic "rabbi". He is a liar, a fraude and a charatain)
My Rabbinical lineage is as follows:Rebbe Yisroel Baal Shem Tov (1698-1760), founder of Hasidism to his disciple,
Rebbe Dov Ber (1710-1772), the Maggid of Mezritch to his disciple,
Rebbe Elimelech of Lizhensk (1717-1786), the Noam Elimelech to his disciple,
Rebbe Yaakov Yitzchak (1745-1815), the Chozeh of Lublin to his disciple,
Rebbe Moshe Teitelbaum of Ujhely (1759-1841), the Yismach Moshe to his son,
Rebbe Eluzer Nissan Teitelbaum of Drubitsch (1786-1854) to his son,
Rebbe Yekusiel Yehuda Teitelbaum of Sighet (1808-1883), the Yetev Lev to his son,
Rebbe Chananyah Yom Tov Lipa Teitelbaum of Sighet (1836-1904), the Kedushas Yom Tov to his eldest son,
Rebbe Chaim Tzvi Teitelbaum of Sighet (1884-1926), the Atzei Chaim, to his youngest brother,
Rebbe Yoel Teitelbaum (1887-1979), Satmar Rebbe to,
Rebbe Hayyim ben David (Joseph) Gelberman (1912 - 2010) the New Yorker Rebbe,
who ordained me.
