The Three Types Of Smicha (ordination)

And Why I Surrendered Mine

© By Rabbi Shlomo Nachman (John of AllFaith)*

I have decided to lay my Jewish ordinations aside. From now on I am using my original internet handle: John of AllFaith. Among my reasons are the following:

I am open to discussing this with those sincerely interested.

Most of my presentations included YouTube videos. The Globalists at YouTube cancelled my account and removed thousands of my videos. I am gradually removing the dead video players from the site, but there are a LOT of them. Due to my preference for basic HTML over programmed methods, this process will take a considerable amount of time (and may never be completed). I now stream my Zoom videos through Rumble and invite you to join me there.

There are three types of smicha/semikhah (ordination) issued:
Yoreh Yoreh

The recipient of this smicha has demonstrated sufficient education and proper judgment to be able to render halachic judgments on matters of religious law as it pertains to daily life such as kashrut, nidda, and permissible or forbidden activities on Shabbat and/or Jewish festivals or Yamim Tovim

Yadin Yadin

The recipient of this smicha has demonstrated sufficient education and proper judgment to be able to render halachic judgments on matters of religious law as it pertains to monetary and property disputes.

Yatir Bechorot Yatir

The recipient of this semikhah has demonstrated sufficient education and proper judgment to determine the ritual status of firstborn animals that have developed a blemish. This degree required extensive veterinary knowledge. While the first two classes are still issued today, this last one is not.
