This past Friday, May 9, some folks in Alabama, Florida, Georgia, Mississippi, North Carolina, South Carolina, and Texas observed Confederate American Memorial Day and Native American Day. The dates of these observances vary. We hope those honoring these days were blessed by their memories and given respect for their ancestors. Of course, many holidays or remembrance days are observed every day because it is our nature to remember both the good and the not-so-good.
The famous quote comes to mind: "Those who fail to remember the past are condemned to repeat it." The War of Northern Aggression was among the darkest times in our national history as the United States caused an estimated 620,000 deaths and denied Southerners their right to self-determination. As bad as the political divide currently is between the Left, the Right, and the Patriots, we pray that we remember that war and never repeat it. Today, there are people on all three sides calling for a modern civil war to separate the political Left and Right.
An estimated 4,000 Cherokees died during the Trail of Tears. This tragic event saw the forced removal of 16,000 Cherokees from their lands east of the Mississippi River to Oklahoma, leading to deaths due to exposure, starvation, and disease. A fifth of the Cherokee population perished along the trail. May the horrors done to the native peoples of this continent never be done to any other people. The Trail of Tears began near my hometown, which is named after the mixed-blood Cherokee Chief, John Ross. His home is only 10 minutes from here. We need to remember the past! Both the positives and negatives!
The quote, "Those who fail to remember the past are condemned to repeat it," is often attributed to Edmund Burke, the Anglo-Irish statesman, journalist, writer, literary critic, philosopher, and parliamentary orator, but was actually penned by George Santayana in his book "The Life of Reason." While Burke is known for a similar saying ("Those who don't know history are destined to repeat it"), Santayana's quote is the more commonly repeated, though often cited in Burke's name. Both quotes' points are the same, emphasizing the importance of learning from the past to avoid repeating mistakes. We don't need to "reinvent the wheel" if we are intelligent enough to learn from those who came before us. This vital lesson humanity has only partially come to terms with. Today, powerful forces are seeking to erase knowledge of the past and replace it with Progressivist platitudes to the point of derangement, while a largely apathetic world watches silently on the sidelines. May God grant us more wisdom than we are currently manifesting as communities. As Saint Francis of Assisi encouraged:
The Roman Catholic Church, like all organized religions, is a mixed bag. It has done great good in the world and produced innumerable blessings for people. Julian of Norwich, a 14th-century Christian mystic, once wrote, "The fruit and the purpose of prayer is to be 'one' with and like God in all things." Julian of Norwich taught the importance of praying with our full bodies, not just our intellects, to unify ourselves into prayer, body, mind, and spirit. Religion and spirituality are two different things. Spirituality aims to connect with our consciousness at a level of spiritual unity in the Spirit. Julian of Norwich and other mystics taught techniques to do this:
By remembering the past, we learn how to live in the present. By avoiding their mistakes and embracing their wisdom, we increase our wisdom and call forth the best in ourselves, not the worst. This is the power of prayer. In the Eastern Orthodox Catholic Church, prayer is taken very seriously. We can all learn from their teachings on prayer:
The formal separation between the Roman Catholic and Eastern Orthodox Catholic churches occurred in 1054 CE and is known as the Great Schism. Islam had been successful in converting large swaths of Europe to Islam. Their presence divided the Continent and the Church physically as well as religiously. This event, also known as the East-West Schism, marked a definitive break in communion between the two branches of Christianity and eventually led to Christianity's later fragmentation. Today, there are more than 45,000 Christian denominations globally, each claiming in one way or another to be Jesus' true representative on Earth. These denominations developed unique hierarchies, rules, dogmas, and identities, and vary significantly from one another. But where is the Jewish Way Sect of Yeshua and his followers? Where is the religion of Moses and his followers? The only constant in this life is change. In the West, the Roman Church, the largest denomination, developed the Papacy and its orders. This week, we all witnessed the inauguration of a new Roman Pope, Leo XIV.
While most people who care about this are rejoicing, not everyone is. Why they are rejoicing is obvious, but it would be wise to look at those who are not so jubilant. As with Pope Francis, the pale of Malachy's prophecy has many people concerned. The famed Catholic Saint Malachy lived from 1094 to 1148, just after the Great Schism. His prophecy continues to hold the interest of many faithful Catholics and non-Catholic prophecy watchers alike. And for good reason.
On November 11, 2012, I posted a piece about this prophecy to AllFaith.com that met with mixed reactions, both positive and negative, as is usual. I've recently updated it. Its present form can be read HERE. In 2012 there were concerns that, according to Islamic Sharia, then Pope Francis had formally converted to Islam by publicly reciting the Shahada conversion prayer during his 2012 visit to the Dome of the Rock, former site of the First and Second Jerusalem Temples, the spot from which Muslims believe Muhammad, mounted on a celestial horse, ascended into Heaven, and received God's blessings. The Dome of the Rock is the third-holiest site in Islam. Pope Francis' prayer-recital of the Shahada seemed even more noteworthy than it otherwise might have, partly because of the Malachy prophecy of the final Pope. Many people thought these prophecies might be coming to pass then. Even more so, considering people's interest that year in the Mayan prophecies marking the year as the end of their ancient calendar (which many wrongly took as a prediction of the end of the world, as I discussed at the time). Many of his opponents accused Francis of seeking to create a new religion called "Chrislam," a hybrid of Christianity and Islam. We still run into internet posts about that from time to time. But nothing seemed to happen, and people mostly forgot about the prophecy.
But this week, Pope Leo XIV—formerly known as Cardinal Robert Prevost—was installed as the new pontiff on May 8, 2025, just weeks after Pope Francis's death at 88, on Easter Monday (April 22), with wide acceptance. As I wrote about Francis in 2012, time will tell if Malachy's prophecies were speaking of Leo XIV. If not, we can finally say his prophecy failed, and the Papacy will continue into the future.
Many find the elevation of the first American to the Papacy interesting regarding this prophecy within and outside the Vatican system. Progressives fear that Pope Leo is a registered Republican and so stands with President Trump. In contrast, many Conservatives fear that some of Pope Leo's policies are too left of center and fear he will continue the pro-Globalist policies of Francis. Again, only time will tell.
As I have said for many years, I do not see any reference to the United States in any biblical prophecy, nor do I believe the US is the "Babylon the Great," referenced by John in his Revelation prophecy, as some do. The absence of the US from biblical prophecy has always led me to assume the US would fall hard before the End of Days begins. Likely, its fall would trigger Western support for the coming global despot, Rex Mundi, who will lead a united West into the final years of the age, according to Daniel, John, and other prophets. Rex Mundi is supposed to rise from the EU, likely ruling from the Hague, with the help of the False Prophet (the final Pope according to Malachy). I still believe this is the correct interpretation.
However, consider: If the False Prophet is an American, as is Pope Leo XIV, might it be that the US, as known today, won't exist but become simply an unmentioned part of his global domain and congregation? Prophecy is often fulfilled in surprising ways. Some people are suggesting this. To be clear, I'm not convinced, but the possibility is certainly plausible and interesting to consider as we wait. Should the False Prophet arise with the charisma and popular support the prophets suggest, might it not be that he, through the US, would lead the world into the foretold Global Union and dictatorship of the Son of Perdition? After all, critics point out that W. Bush worked hard (and fortunately failed) to dissolve the US into a North American Union with a new currency called the Amero, which supporters said would have eventually merged the NAU with the European (EU) and other economic unions to form the Global government. Arguably, the Globalists have been floating this idea for a long time. Bush failed, but could a popular Globalist Pope succeed given the current political climate? As with Francis, time will tell what Leo XIV will accomplish for good or for ill. We need not assume the negative possibility, but we should pay close, objective, attention.
Skeptics of the Malachy prophecy often note that since Francis died, and a new pope has been elected, the Malachy prophecy has proven false. BUT since Francis formally converted to Islam on international media, he was arguably not "the pope in truth," but another antipope, thus possibly a smokescreen as the Globalists consolidated their efforts (Consider II Thessalonians 2), the prophecy remains in play. Throughout the Catholic Church's history, there have been approximately 30 to 40 "antipopes" according to the Vatican. While the Vatican considers Francis a "legitimate Pope," many do not agree for several reasons. Each of the antipopes was accepted by some Church authorities as legitimate. There have been several confusing periods when it was debated who the true Pope was. The biblical prophecies have always been amazingly accurate, but even they are debated endlessly. Extra-biblical prophecies like Malachy's have many criticisms and possible interpretations. And an American Pope? Unheard of.
We know what the final Pope will do. He will be the False Prophet of John's Revelation, assistant to the global despot, ‘the One-Like-Haman’, the Antichrist, the Son of Perdition. He will establish universal worship, which is the clear meaning of Babylon the Great: she fornicates with the kings of the earth; hence, she is not a king herself. Babylon the Great is the United States or any other country. It is the rebirth of the ancient Babylonian religion. Through this restored religion, called "the Great Whore," hr leader, the False Prophet, will support the global despot, who is not yet recognizable on the world stage. Again, time will tell about Pope Leo XIV.
Malachy's prophecy suggests that either Francis (now dead) or the 69-year-old Pope Leo XIV must be the final Bishop of Rome and the coming False Prophet, creator of the foretold world religion and Mark of the Beast. According to John's Book, Rex Mundi will eventually turn on the False Prophet and slay him. Are we witnessing his entrance onto the world stage? Time will tell.
According to Malachy's text, there would be 112 popes after his lifetime and then a final one, with the ominous title 'Peter the Roman.' The name "Peter the Roman" seemingly mocks the notion of a Roman Nicolaitan Pope holding the throne as Jesus' claimed successor, Peter, as taught by the Church. The New Testament places Jesus' brother James in that position, by the way, not Peter.
The text says that Peter the Roman's reign as Pope unfolds in the following manner: "Peter the Roman, who will pasture his sheep during many tribulations, and when these things are finished, the city of seven hills [Rome] will be destroyed, and the dreadful judge [Rex Mundi] will judge his people. The End."
In my opinion, the prophecy is not conclusive. But it certainly seems like the overall prophecies are continuing to fall into place, but like identifying the Mark of Beast — which people once thought referred to a cattle-brand, then to a tattoo, then to the UPC, then to an injection, and now commonly to AI... we're not as smart as we'd like to believe! We have warning signs to pay attention to, but even clearer prophecies, like the Mark, are not always easy to recognize until they are enacted.
In any case, beware of the global unification of power, whether religious or secular. Consider that anyone who wants to control you is by definition your enemy. At the same time, social structure and righteous authority are necessary for civilized life, and all the Scriptures say to obey righteous laws and authorities. BUT as the False Prophet arises, whoever he turns out to be, Stand Firmly and Refuse to be Assimilated and Marked! REMEMBER the past: POWER CORRUPTS AND ABSOLUTE POWER ALWAYS CORRUPTS ABSOLUTELY. Some things never change.
May Pope Leo XIV prove to be a godly and capable leader of the world's largest religion and be a blessing to us all.
