May All People Be Happy Swami Tadatmananda
Religion provides individuals and societies with meaning, purpose, moral guidance, and a sense of community. Religion can also offer comfort, social stability, and a framework for understanding the world and one's place within it. The various religious systems offer diverse paths to salvation, worship, and obedience to a higher power as perceived by the individual paths. Historically, religion also plays a critical role in shaping cultural norms and values.
Spirituality, at its core, is a personal journey of seeking more profound meaning and purpose in life, usually involving a connection to something greater than oneself. Spirituality is a personal exploration that can lead to inner peace, a sense of belonging, and improved well-being. While specific goals vary, spirituality generally encompasses the individual quest for meaning, connecting with something larger, and fostering personal growth.
Religion is outward-focused while spirituality is inward-directed. Religion offers external direction and stability, usually under an established authority and communal belief system. Spirituality offers internal direction without external regulation and may take the person into unchartered realms of perception. Both are important. Many religious people are spiritual and many spiritual people are not religious."If that which you seek, you find not within, you will never find it without."
Everyone of the Light is seeking "Heaven."The term Heaven means different things to different people, religions, and cultures. Both religion and spirituality have "heaven," however conceived, as their goal. That may be heaven 'with streets of gold and pearly white gates' or 'heaven on earth,' a safe haven of refuge. The good news is, with help from the Beloved ONE, we can find heaven right now, right here, and enjoy it in the future!
However conceived, Heaven is about the quality of one's life, happiness, and bliss, more than about location or external factors. The biblical Garden of Eden was "heaven on earth," located south of present Baghdad, and the Jewish Gan Eden (same word) is conceived as a spiritual realm. One word that defines heaven is bliss. Another is satiety. Another is safety and security. All people of Light desire such a haven, both in this life and in the next.
Pirkei Avot 4:1. Ben Zoma said: Who is wise? He who learns from all people, as it is written (Psalm 119:99) “I have gained understanding from all my teachers.”
Who is mighty? One who subdues the passions, as it is written (Proverbs 16:32) “One who is slow to anger is better than the mighty, and one whose temper is controlled than one who captures a city.”
Who is rich? One who rejoices in his portion, as it is written (Psalm 128:2) “You shall eat the fruit of the labor of your hands; you shall be happy, and it shall go well with you.” “You shall be” refers to this world; and “it shall be well with you” refers to the world to come. Our choices, actions, and mindsets determine the conditions under which we exist now and in the future. This life can be heaven or hell depending on our choices. The next life is fundamentally a continuation of this one. Know heaven here, know heaven there. Reject heaven here, and one rejects it there. Make sense? The martyrs found heaven here amidst their sufferings and achieved it, and so can we.
Living a "martyr's life" doesn't necessarily mean physical death, but rather embracing a life of unwavering faith and commitment to God as one percieves, even in the face of opposition or challenges. It involves prioritizing love and faith even against all odds, making personal sacrifices for what one believes to be right and true, and being a credible witness for goodness in daily life. This involves resisting negative temptations, standing for the Truth in love, and serving others, even when it's difficult.
We can achieve heaven now by embracing our roles in shaping our realities and by fostering a sense of well-being and contentment, rather than relying on external factors or beliefs. Faith: emunah, sraddha, is an essential key in such a life. The question is, how can we do this? We do this by looking within ourselves, by going beyond the dualities of material life and seeking oneness with the Truth as we understand it.
Here's a few examples to help achieve heaven in this life:
Cultivate a Positive Mindset:
Build Meaningful Relationships:
- Focus on gratitude: Appreciate the good things in life, both big and small, and practice thankfulness.
Practice empathy and compassion:
- Nurture connections with others: Invest time and effort in fostering strong relationships with others.
- Understand and share the feelings of others, walk a mile in other's moccassins offering love, support and kindness.
Forgive and let go:
Pursue Passions and Purpose:- Release resentment and anger to create space for positive connections.
Set meaningful goals:
- Identify your interests: Explore activities and hobbies that bring you joy and fulfillment.
Contribute to something larger than yourself:
- Establish objectives that align with your values and aspirations.
Practice Self-Care:
- Engage in activities that benefit others or make a positive impact on the world.
Manage stress:
- Prioritize physical health: Eat well, exercise regularly, and get enough sleep.
Set healthy boundaries:
- Practice relaxation techniques like meditation, hitbodedut, intentional breathing, prayers, sing, make music, spending time in nature.
Live in the Present Moment (Be Here Now):
- Learn to say "no" to requests that drain your energy and resources.
Find joy in simple things:
- Be mindful: Pay attention to your thoughts, feelings, and surroundings without judgment or competition with others.
Let go of the past and future:
- Appreciate the beauty and wonder of everyday experiences.
- Focus on the present moment (Be Here Now) and make the most of it.
Seek the Will of God according to your understanding:
The Prayer of Yeshua John of AllFaith
By actively cultivating such aspects of life, individuals can create a sense of heaven on earth, characterized by happiness, bliss, fulfillment, and a deep sense of well-being and KNOW One God Who is Sat Chit Ananda Vigraha, the very Form of existence/truth, consciousness and bliss. When this heaven is achieved, the Consciousness of GOD is written within and the Song of Redemption illuminates everything. With this, Heaven in the next life is assured. Why? Because a person who is inwardly-lightened (spiritually enlightened) knows the Truth.
Such a person may include participation in a religion or other external paths, or may not. We're all unique. Once one finds heaven within, one finds heaven without! Because there is truly nothing except Heaven! For who have have eyes to see. The pre-enlightened world is but a school with myriad lessons to be learned. Those who have learned their lessons and "graduated," dwell in Heaven.
When we reject negative thoughts and replace them with positive ones, we percieves the world as it truely is. Then, when witnessing the negativities around us we understand that both the positive and negatives of material life are only the working out of the lessons of the Divine Plan of Redemption. For those who see things as they really are, the dualities do not alter inward peace. By embracing right vision through the eyes of faith in the One Divinity, one contributes to the purification of the world and the planetary realization of the Song of Redemption. We need only faith. Consider:
Hebrews 11:1-6
Now faith is the substance of things hoped for, the evidence of things not seen. For by faith the elders obtained a good testimony. By faith we understand that the worlds were framed by the word of GOD, so that the things which are seen were not made of things which are visible. By faith Abel offered to GOD a more excellent sacrifice than Cain, through which he obtained witness that he was righteous, GOD testifying of his gifts; and through it he, being dead, still speaks. By faith Enoch was taken away so that he did not see death, “and was not found, because GOD had taken him”; for before he was taken, he had this testimony: he pleased GOD. But without faith it is impossible to please GOD, for one who comes to GOD must believe that GOD exists, and that God is a rewarder of those who diligently seek the Divine.Faith and Devotion to GOD, are the keys to the Kingdom.
As Sri Krishna explains to Arjuna in Srimad Bhagavad Gita:
9:22-34: ...those who worship Me [One God] with focused intent, who have no other object and who are always yoked in devotion, upon them I confer happiness and carry them through.
Also, those who are devotees of the various gods, and who worship them, endowed with faith, they worship Me alone. I indeed am the Sole Enjoyer and GOD of all sacrifices, but not knowing Me in truth, they take less direct paths...
If one offers Me a leaf, a flower, a fruit, or some water with devotion [bhakti] I will accept it. I accept whatever is offered by one with pure intention.
So, whatever you do, whatever you eat, whatever you offer [in sacrifice], whatever you give away [in charity], whatever austerities you perform, do it all as an offering unto Me.
Freed in whichever way from auspicious and inauspicious fruitive reactions, you will be liberated from the bondage of karma [action and reaction]. With the mind firmly established in the yoga of renunciation, you will be liberated and come to Me.
I am equitable towards all beings; none are hateful, and none are dear to Me. But those who worship Me with devotion are in Me and I am in them.
Even if one’s actions are abominable, if one worships Me with exclusive devotion [bhakti], I will consider that person virtuous because of his integral determination. Such a person soon becomes a righteous soul and attains eternal peace. Boldly declare that My devotee shall never perish!...
Always conscious of Me, be My devotee! Sacrifice and prostrate before Me. Having Me as the supreme goal, by thoroughly yoking yourself with Me, you will surely come to Me.We desire to offer everything we have to You, O Lord!
I Give It All To You, Swami Tadatmananda
