Are Judaism and Christianity the Same?

© By John of AllFaith *

An Older Version

While Christianity claims to be monotheistic, most Christians worship three gods: Father, Son, and Holy Ghost. They identify the Father as the God of the Bible, the Son as the Nicene Jesus, and the Holy Ghost. The origin of the Holy Ghost is the Ruach HaKodesh Presence of HaShem. Like the Shechinah, the Ruach is not a god or being biblically, but the "holy breath" or "wind" of the one God. Most Christians say they worship but one god in three "persons"; however, this idea contradicts the Shema just as clearly and makes no sense. 1+1+1 never equals 1.

Judaism worships the One God and forbids worshipping anyone or anything else as demanded in Torah (Exodus 20:3). God is One, not three.

שְׁמַע יִשְׂרָאֵל חשם אֱלֹהֵינוּ חשם אֶחָד
Sh'ma Yisra'el HaShem Eloheinu HaShem Eḥad

"Hear Y'israel, HaShem is God, HaShem is ONE" (Deuteronomy 6:4).

Christians worship a human being: Jesus is said to be "fully man and fully god," which, of course, makes no logical noir biblical sense because, as Paul said in Romans 3:22, 23:

"...There is no difference between Jew and Gentile, for all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God

Paul, as is the Torah, is clear that ALL have fallen off the derech (the right path), except God. As discussed elsewhere, the New Testament acknowledges that this includes the historic Yeshua as discussed Here. Jews and the Way sect only worship HaShem, whom the Shema describes as echad, One.

You shall fear [or awe] only the LORD your God; you shall worship Him and swear by His name. "You shall not follow other gods, any of the gods of the peoples who surround you (Deuteronomy 6:13, 14).

Christianity claims its god-man is the Jewish Messiah.
Judaism correctly notes that the historic Yeshua ben Miriam met none of the major messianic requirements and that had he been god incarnate, he could not be the Messiah anyway, since Mashiach ben David must be a fully human Jewish male descended from Kings Shlomo and David on his birth father's side.

Christianity claims Jesus forgives sins.
Like the Torah, Judaism and the Way sect say only God can forgive sins.

Behold, all souls are Mine. Like the soul of the father, like the soul of the son, they are Mine; the soul that sins, it shall die (Ezekiel 18:4).
Again,
See now that it is I! I am the One, and there is no god like Me! I cause death and grant life. I strike, but I heal, and no one can rescue me from My Hand! (Deuteronomy 32:39)
.

Rome's Nicene Christianity exists outside and is opposed to the eternal Sinai Covenant established between the One God and the Jewish people at Sinai.
Judaism maintains the Sinai Covenant. "Rabbinic Judaism" is the successor to the biblical Judaism of Moshe, through the Judges, Kings, Prophets, and Prushim (Pharisees). The Way sect presented an alternative to "Rabbinic Judaism" based on Yeshua's reforms. That sect fell before the might of Rome and was replaced by Rome's Nicolaitan dogma, as Yochanan (or John) warned. Today, sincere seekers of God are rediscovering Derech Yeshua, and this section of AllFaith.com exists to help them in this endeavor.

And I will establish My Covenant between you and Me and between your seed after you throughout their generations as an everlasting covenant to be God to you and your seed after you. And I will give you and your seed after you the land of your sojournings, the entire land of Canaan for an everlasting possession, and I will be to them for a God." (Genesis 17:17, 18).

Christianity claims that Jesus is the "only way" to G-d
Judaism and the Way sect reject this claim as it violates the Torah and the Prophets (and the New Testament).

See now that it is I! I am the One, and there is no god like Me! I cause death and grant life. I strike, but I heal, and no one can rescue from My Hand! (Deuteronomy 32:39)

Christianity embraces a human sacrifice as the way to redemption.
Judaism rejects human sacrifices.

You shall not do so to the Lord, your God; for every abomination to the Lord which He hates, they did to their gods, for also their sons and daughters they would burn in fire to their gods. (Deuteronomy 12:31)

Christianity claims that Jesus holds all authority in Heaven and on Earth.
Judaism and the Way sect know that the Torah maintains that HaShem alone holds such authority.

"Ho! O Lord God, behold, You have made the heaven and the earth by Your great power and Your outstretched arm. Nothing is hidden from You, Who exercises loving- kindness to thousands and forgives the iniquity of the fathers in the bosom of the children who follow them, O Great and Mighty God, the Lord of Hosts is His Name. (Jeremiah 32:17,18)

Christianity claims that Jews and all others who reject Jesus go to Hell for eternal punishment.
Judaism and the Way sect acknowledge that ALL Israel has a place in the world to come and will inherit the Land of Promise (Isaiah 60:21). God granted Redemption to the Jews and those standing with us at Mount Sinai. There is no mediator between HaShem and humanity, nor does He torture His children.

And the strength of Your awesome deeds they will tell, and Your greatness I shall sing. They will speak of the remembrance of Your abundant goodness and, of Your righteousness, they will sing. The Lord is gracious, compassionate, slow to anger, and of great kindness. The Lord is good to all, and His mercies are on all His works. The Lord is good to all, and His mercies are on all His works. (Psalms 145:6-10).

Christianity says Jesus will one day return in a "Second Coming" and that he will met the requirements then.
Judaism and the Way sect note correctly that the Messiah has not yet come the first time and that he will complete his task in one lifetime, according to the biblical prophets. No "second coming" of the Messiah is found in the Tanach. He comes and does the job. The requirements include:

Christianity, like Islam, is a wholly separate religion from Judaism. Judaism remains the only Biblical religion of Avraham, Yitzhak, and Ya'akov. The Way sect was a Jewish reform movement, like Rabbinic Judaism originally, that flourished during the first two centuries of our common era. Rome supplanted it and created Christianity. Rabbinic Judaism became the sole form of Judaism of merit (other than the brief flowering of Kairaism), and it inherited the blessings of God as such.

And, not but, within Christianity and other religions, many sincere people worship God according to their knowledge. It is not for us to say whom God accepts or rejects. All of us are fallible; He is not. We all miss the bull's eye of perfection and have no right to judge others. God alone is the judge, and He overrides judgment with compassion, knowing the intentions of our hearts. Many Christians and others exhibit more righteousness and love of God than many Jews. He is the decider of all things. Nevertheless, the fact remains that the only religion authorized in the Bible is Judaism. It's simply a fact.

Most religiously observant Christians today are good, sincere people, and we should respect their zeal. As Jews, God calls us to be the nation of priests (Exodus 19:6). It is our sacred duty to assist our laity, i.e., the other nations. In many cases, the others are more zealous for God than the majority of Jews are!

Understand, however, that their zeal is not according to accurate knowledge or history (Romans 10:2). They have not and can not replace the Jews as the eternally Covenanted people of HaShem, the God of Israel. Some of their beliefs contradict the Torah, even though most genuinely believe they are embracing the true Path to God. We should help those who are seeking greater understanding.

The Good News is that the God of Israel shows mercy and compassion to all who seek Him, as shared above in Psalms 145:6-10.

HaShem knows the heart and intention of all flesh and rewards all who approach Him in sincerity and emunah (sincere faith). For this reason, our sages have consistently taught that people do not need to convert to Judaism to have positive standing before HaShem. Hence, Judaism is not a missionary religion. As Rabbi Hillel taught, those things you find deplorable to yourself do not do to another. We must move forward with this principle through our emunah because the entire Torah resides upon this central truth.
