There once was a pious rav who had carefully honored Shabbat his entire life.
One day his daughter went into labor on Shabbat and needed to get to the hospital due to complications. The rav's wife, the girl's mother, plugged in and picked up the phone to call an ambulance. The driver said he'd be right there. The rav took the phone however and said "never mind, don't come." Turning to his wife he explained: What if the driver is Shomer Shabbat? (driving on Shabbat is forbidden by Orthodox halacha).
The wife said, "I'll drive her then" and went for her keys. But the rav replied: "No, you are always so careful to be shomer Shabbat; I'll drive her. And he did.
Soon the child was born and grew up to be a great and pious rav like his grandfather.
Witnessing these events the Heavenly Court met and ruled:
The ambulance driver, who was prepared to drive her to the hospital even though it was Shabbat, was blessed due to his willingness to serve a person in need.
The rav's wife was more richly blessed due to her selfless efforts on her daughter's behalf. She gave no thought to herself.
The rav was even more blessed due to his willingness to accept responsibility for everyone's potential Shabbat violation onto himself.
And the child, who became a great rabbi, was the most blessed of them all for living in such a pious community where everyone honors Shabbat with true understanding.
