The spiritual concept and practice of Merkaba Mysticism draws upon ancient esoteric traditions, combining elements of sacred geometry, meditation, metaphysical philosophy, and prophecy. The term “Merkaba” comes from the Hebrew word Merkabah, which means “chariot” or “vehicle.” Ezekiel’s mystical description of the Merkabah transcends direct human experience and enters realms beyond our normal awareness. The Merkabah is often described as a divine light vehicle or energy field that can transport the soul to higher levels of consciousness or even other dimensions. But it is more. The Merkabah is the ‘Chariot Throne of God that exists atop the firmament or dome that covers the earth described in Genesis chapter one.
Key Concepts of Merkaba Mysticism:
- Sacred Geometry: At its core, Merkaba mysticism is closely related to sacred geometry. The Merkaba itself is typically visualized as a three-dimensional shape composed of two interlocking tetrahedrons (pyramids) that form a star tetrahedron. This geometric shape is thought to represent the structure of the universe, the human energy field, and the balance of dualities.
- Tetrahedron: A tetrahedron is a pyramid with a triangular base, and when two tetrahedrons intersect, they create the Merkaba, often seen as a symbol of spiritual ascent, balance, and harmony.
- Star Tetrahedron: The star-shaped geometry formed by the intersecting tetrahedrons represents the unity of the masculine and feminine energies (the two pyramids), and the balance between the physical and spiritual worlds.
- Energy Field: The Merkaba is said to house the manifest macrocosmic field of light and energy of God as the microcosmic field of light and energy, sometimes called the related energy emanations of the etheric and aura, surrounds the human body. Through certain meditative techniques associated with Merkaba Mysticism, the human practitioner can blend the terrestrial energy field of the microcosmic entity with the transcendent energy field of the macrocosmic through devekut or “attachment.” By activating the Merkaba connection through specific meditation techniques, individuals have the innate ability to increase their frequency, protect themselves energetically, and travel through diverse dimensions literally or through alternate states of consciousness.
- Spiritual Ascension or Devekut: According to these teachings, the Merkaba energies connecting the macrocosmic to microcosmic Sefirot Kether to Malkuth , is a tool for spiritual ascension from mundane dualistic consciousness to the singular consciousness of devekut. The process of activating the Merkaba involves deep meditation and visualization practices, which aim to align the individual with higher vibrational frequencies and facilitate connection with the divine or higher realms of existence. This can include experiences of out-of-body travel, enlightenment, or contact with higher-dimensional beings, apparent miracles, and so on.
- The Merkaba as a “Vehicle”: The concept of the Merkaba as a “vehicle” refers to its ability to transport consciousness. This teaching explains how, through focused meditation, individuals can “activate” their Merkaba to transcend physical limitations and explore higher planes of existence, such as the spiritual, astral, or even cosmic planes. This concept is similar to the idea of “light bodies” or “energy bodies” found in various spiritual traditions. The method for accomplishing this is straightforward, if shrouded in mystery. The terrestrial entity focuses on its grounding to the earth and then maintaining awareness of this energy connection, raising the consciousness gradually following the derech or path upward into the physical firmament and beyond to the Merkaba itself.
Merkaba Activation Techniques:
- Breathing Techniques: A key aspect of Merkaba activation involves specific breathing exercises, which help synchronize the mind, body, and energy field. These breathing patterns are designed to balance the energy flow in the body and awaken the Merkaba. The Derech (Path) of Breath leads one upward through the ten Sefirot to the upper Triad of Chochmah, Binah, and Da’at from which the consciousness transcends terrestrial awareness and ascends to Keter, which is the portal to the Merkaba.
- Visualization and Meditation: During meditation, practitioners often visualize the Merkaba as a geometric shape spinning around the body, with each tetrahedron rotating in opposite directions. This creates a powerful reverse energetic field around the person, which enhances spiritual awareness and protection from negative spirits which the process can open the consciousness to.
- Sacred Sound and Frequencies: Some techniques use sacred sound vibrations, mantras (repetitious chants), or vibrational frequencies (such as 528 Hz) to activate the Merkaba. Proper sound vibrations can align the body’s energy centers (called chakras in the East) and facilitate the movement of energy through the body, aiding in Merkaba activation. One is encouraged to use caution when utilizing external stimuli because the Devekut is the realm of pure balance and righteousness. Entering this realm before achieving balance can have negative consequences.
Connections with Other Ancient Traditions: Shlomo HaMelech noted that there is nothing new under the sun. This includes the desire to connect with or attach to the Merkaba. Various ancient traditions hold this wisdom tradition, including:
- Basic Hebrew Kabbalah Mysticism: The concept of the Merkabah (or Chariot) appears in most Jewish mystical traditions of Kabbalah as well as in Merkabah Mysticism which explores divine visions and mystical ascension through contemplation of the chariot of God. Unlike Kabbalah which depends on established forms and structures, Merkabah Mysticism is more experiential, presenting the derech of path to be followed but requiring the practitioner to walk the derech more intuitively. For this reason, many consider Merkabah to be less safe than Kabbalah.
- Indian, Egyptian, and Atlantean Mysticism: Some esoteric teachers trace the Merkaba back to ancient India, Egypt, and Atlantis, suggesting that advanced civilizations understood and used this energy field for spiritual and physical transformation. The Vedas and Mahabharata speak about these topics with some specificity. People who follow these teachings often blend their practices with the idea of ascended masters, spiritual alchemy, and multidimensional travel. New Age Spirituality: In modern spiritual movements, Merkaba mysticism has been popularized as a method of raising one’s vibrational frequency and achieving higher consciousness. The practice has become part of New Age healing and metaphysical teachings. Other practitioners warn that these additional practices passed through India, Egyptian, and possibly Atlantis but hold dangerous connections to the pre-Babel Nephilim techniques championed by King Nimrod and Semiraimis. In the realms of mysticism, one must always exercise caution because of this danger.
Practical Applications of Merkaba Mysticism:
- Spiritual Enlightenment: This is the only certain goal of Merkaba Mysticism. All others should be viewed as side effects.
- Physical Healing: The Merkaba energy field has healing properties, both for the individual and for others, if used with wisdom. Some people practice activating their microcosmic Merkaba to heal themselves or to protect themselves from negative energies. Caution is advised.
- Spiritual Healing: Through the practice, one transcends the concerns of dualism and sees beyond them. This helps people let go of emotional and mental pains and memories and achieve an expanded consciousness wherein the limited woes of modern life are transcended through the bliss of Devekut and singular focus.
- Protection: The Merkaba can act as an energetic shield, protecting the practitioner from negative influences or psychic attacks. There are even reports of protection from physical attacks. This is because the Merkaba is not merely a higher energy field, it is the energy of the living God, Compassionate and Just. Those who fail to remember this do not achieve their goal.
- Spiritual Growth: Merkaba mysticism is first and foremost a path toward greater spiritual enlightenment and self-realization, as it allows the practitioner to align with higher dimensions of consciousness and tap into their full spiritual potential.
Criticism and Controversy Like many esoteric or mystical practices, Merkaba mysticism has its critics. Some view it as an overly complicated or speculative system of belief with little grounding in scientific evidence. Others caution that the focus on “higher dimensions” or “ascension” may lead individuals to neglect practical, grounded aspects of spiritual development, such as compassion, humility, and self-awareness.
Nonetheless, for those who cultivate proper Merkaba Mysticism it continues to be an effective practice among those seeking to explore spiritual growth, multidimensional experiences, and alternative forms of consciousness. It is often combined with other spiritual or energy healing practices, such as Reiki, chakra work, and shamanic journeying. Again, it must be acknowledged that there are always counterfeits to everything true and all systems of mysticism and religion provide ample opportunities for charlatans and those seeking to advance the agenda of the Nephilim. All forms of mysticism must be handled cautiously while maintaining one's focus on God according to one's realization. These teachings are not intended for spiritual thrill seekers, those seeking power over others, or the unbalanced.
In Summary
Merkaba Mysticism revolves around the concept of a macrocosmic energetic, light-filled vehicle that is reflected in a microcosmic energetic, light-filled human body as a vehicle. This energy surrounds the human body and can facilitate spiritual ascension, multidimensional travel, and personal transformation. It involves sacred geometry, breathing techniques, visualization, and meditation to activate the Merkaba energy field. The system is rooted in ancient spiritual traditions reflected in many ancient cultures. Merkaba practices have always found resonance with spiritual seekers as a tool for self-healing, protection, and expansion of consciousness.
Yechezkel HaNavi
(Ezekiel the Prophet)
1:1 Now it came to pass in the thirtieth year in the fourth [month] on the fifth day of the month, as I was in the midst of the exile by the river Chebar-the heavens opened up, and I saw visions of God.1:2 "On the fifth of the month"-that is the fifth year of King Jehoiachin's exile.
1:3 The word of the Lord was [revealed] to Ezekiel the son of Buzi, the priest, in the land of the Chaldeans, by the river Chebar, and the hand of the Lord came upon him there.
1:4 And I saw, and behold, a tempest was coming from the north, a huge cloud and a flaming fire with a brightness around it; and from its midst, it was like the color of the chashmal from the midst of the fire.
1:5 And from its midst was the likeness of four living beings, and this is their appearance; they had the likeness of a man.
1:6 And [each] one had four faces, and [each] one had four wings.
1:7 And their legs were a straight leg, and the soles of their feet were like a round foot, and they sparkled like the color of burnished copper.
1:8 And human hands were beneath their wings on their four sides, and their faces and their wings were [the same] to all four of them.
1:9 Their wings joined one to the other; they did not turn when they walked; each one would go toward the direction of his face.
1:10 And the likeness of their faces was the face of a man, and the face of a lion was on their right, to the four of them, and the face of an ox to their left, to the four of them, and the face of an eagle [was] to the four of them.
1:11 And so were their faces. And their wings were extended upward; each one had two wings joined to each other, and two covering their bodies.
1:12 Now each one would go toward the direction of his face; wherever would be the will to go, they would go; they did not turn as they walked.
1:13 And the likeness of the living beings; their appearance was like fiery coals, burning like the appearance of firebrands; it was going among the living beings; and there was a brightness to the fire and from the fire came forth lightning.
1:14 And the living beings would run and return, like the appearance of the sparks.
1:15 And I saw the living beings, and behold, one wheel [was] on the ground beside the living beings for its four faces.
1:16 The appearance of the wheels and their work was like the appearance of crystal, and the four of them had one likeness, and their appearance and their workings were as a wheel would be within a wheel.
1:17 When they went, they went toward their four sides; they did not turn when they went.
1:18 And they had backs, and they were very high, and they were dreadful, and their eyebrows were full of eyes round about-[so it was] to the four of them.
1:19 And when the living beings would go, the wheels would go beside them; and when the living beings would lift themselves off the ground, the wheels would lift themselves.
1:20 Wherever there was the will to go, they would go; there was the will to go, and the wheels would lift themselves correspondingly to them, for the will of the living being was in the wheels.
1:21 When they [the living beings] would go, they [the wheels] would go, and when they would stand, they would stand, and when they would lift themselves up from the ground, the wheels would lift themselves correspondingly to them, for the will of the living being was in the wheels.
1:22 And there was a likeness over the heads of the living beings, of an expanse like the color of the severe frost extended over their heads above.
1:23 And beneath the expanse, their wings were straight, one [pointed] toward the other; this one had two that covered, to here, and that one had two that covered, to here, their bodies.
1:24 And I heard the sound of their wings, like the sound of many waters like the voice of the Almighty-when they went; the sound of stirring, like the sound of a camp; when they would stand, they would let down their wings.
1:25 And there was a voice above the expanse that was over their heads; when they stood still, they would let down their wings.
1:26 And above the expanse that was over their heads, like the appearance of a sapphire stone, was the likeness of a throne, and on the likeness of the throne, was a likeness like the appearance of a man upon it above.
1:27 And I saw like the color of chashmal like the appearance of fire within it round about, from the appearance of his loins and above; and from the appearance of his loins and below, I saw [a thing] like the appearance of fire, and there was a brightness round about it.
1:28 Like the appearance of the rainbow that is in the cloud on a rainy day, so was the appearance of the brightness round about; that was the appearance of the likeness of the glory of the Lord, and when I saw, I fell on my face, and I heard a voice speaking.
2:1 And He said to me; "Son of man, stand on your feet, and I shall speak with you."
2:2 Now the spirit entered me when He spoke to me, and it stood me on my feet, and I heard what was being spoken to me.
2:3 And He said to me; "Son of man, I am sending you to the children of Israel, to rebellious nations, which rebelled against Me; they and their fathers rebelled against Me to this very day.
2:4 And the sons, who are brazen-faced and hard-hearted-I send you to them, and you shall say to them, 'So said the Lord God.'
2:5 And they, whether they listen or whether they forbear-for they are a rebellious house-they shall know that a prophet was in their midst.
2:6 And you, son of man, fear them not, and fear not their words, for they are obstinate and thorny with you, and you sit on eglantines; fear not their words, neither be dismayed by them, for they are a rebellious house.
2:7 And you shall speak My words to them; whether they listen or they forbear, for they are rebellious.
2:8 But you, son of man, hearken to what I speak to you; do not be rebellious like the rebellious house; open your mouth and eat what I give you."
2:9 And I saw, and behold, a hand stretched out to me, and behold, in it was a scroll of a book.
2:10 And it spread it out before me, and it was inscribed before and behind, and there was written upon it lamentations and murmuring and woe.
